An introduction to the scientific principles of brewing and fermentation as it applies to the craft beer movement in Northeast Ohio. Students will learn the process of brewing and fermentation and possibly visit local breweries to incorporate community engagement into this growing industry topic.

Hands-on, face-to-face course. Students must be 21 years of age prior to the start of the class. Drivers license required.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a working vocabulary of the history of brewing and the various styles and differences of ales.
  • Explain the process of brewing beer and the ingredients involved.
  • Become familiar with the scientific principles and methodologies as they relate to brewing and fermentation.
