Pivot tables are created from existing spreadsheets.  While it’s not totally necessary to know how to create a spreadsheet in order to create a pivot table the, it helps to understand a few things like:

  • How to open a workbook and view a simple table comfortably
  • How to identify fields and records in a table
  • Understanding how to edit an existing table for a smooth pivot table creation (no blank lines or extra columns
  • The ability to switch back and forth between worksheets
  • The basics of a spreadsheet’s components
    • Adding removing rows/columns
    • How to create and edit simple formulas
    • How to navigate between sheets and how to delete them
