This course explores the principles and applications of construction specifications and contracts, emphasizing the integration of modern technologies in field operations. Students will examine the legal, ethical, and procedural frameworks that govern construction projects. The course prepares students to navigate the evolving landscape of construction engineering with a strong foundation in both traditional practices and emerging technologies used across the industry.
Student Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Interpret and apply construction specifications and contract documents in accordance with industry standards and legal requirements. (e.g., CSI Master Format, AIA contracts).
  • Understand the use of construction management software to prepare bid packages, track project progress, and manage contract documentation.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibility through case studies and simulations aligned with ASCE and CMAA codes of conduct.
  • Understand how digital platforms are utilized to communicate effectively in a professional setting for documentation, reporting, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Integrate emerging technologies into construction field operations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively using digital platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, BIM 360, or Slack) for documentation, reporting, and stakeholder collaboration.
